To Kill a Mockingbird
This grant will fund a theatrical production that will take place after all teams have completed reading the book. The goal is to inspire students and to give them a greater understanding of the original text while enhancing their vision of the characters and plot. This production will no doubt evoke emotion and move students to search for justice in social situations that arise in their own lives.
“Providing a live theatrical performance of To Kill a Mockingbird (presented by the Classic Repertory Company) was an unbelievable opportunity to not only expose our students to the “theatre experience”, but also provided another prospective of the novel, while solidifying comprehension. During the performance, students were spellbound by the actors’ and actresses’ portrayals of each of the characters. Students also developed a thoughtful eye in critiquing and questioning the director’s use of props and setting within the performance. It is our hope that such experiences help students grow in areas both culturally and academically, all while realizing just how much words hold power.”
